Earthquake Theory - Earthquakes in Modern World

 Earthquakes in Modern World

Earthquake theory that blames oil / gas / mineral exploration & nuclear weapon testing for the latest disasters

Article by Laxmanmurthy Ganesh

In this article I shall try to present you my opinion about the recent aggravation of earthquakes across the globe.

A number of Earthquakes have been recorded from the time we know history. Most of the recorded ones' are those which have caused major catastrophe and damages. Also when we study history, we find that earthquakes have occurred in all continents and oceans of the Earth.

Therefore, earthquakes have had a consistent record of occurring, their domain has been wide spread and they have occurred from time immortal.

But when we consider Earth in 21st century, there is a difference.

1. There has been a sudden increase in the number of earthquakes.
2. Earthquakes have occurred at certain predefined areas and at the same time, large number of new areas including those considered earthquake resistant.
3. Earthquakes of considerably large magnitudes are occurring.
4. Certain Earthquakes seem to have links with each other.
5. & more

Why is this change?

Geological studies indicate that,

an earthquake, is a vibration or movement of a part of the earth's crust due to the folding, fracturing, jointing and faulting of rocks as well as effects of volcanic forces etc. The rotation of the earth, upwelling of the mantle and seafloor spreading, iso-static adjustments, climatic and geothermal changes, melting of the Arctic/polar ice caps and rise in sea level are some of the events that may cause instability and disequilibria on the earth's surface inland or under the sea.

There may be many other smaller explanations.

Now, let me come to my studies about recent earthquakes and their increased occurrence.

Here, I would like to add three more very important aspects leading to the pyramid of earthquakes to occurring these days.

3. Millions of tons of oil & natural gas exploration from Earth.
4. Millions of tons of metal & rock exploration from Earth.
5. Underground weapons/nuclear weapons testing.

Now I will have a Q/A format to explain my opinion.

Q0. Can the reasons at 3, 4, & 5 individually cause earthquakes?
A. These may individually cause smaller earthquakes of magnitude 2-3. But may trigger very huge earthquakes of magnitude 7-9.
It is like the triggering of an avalanche. A small trigger on top of a snow-clad mountain can create a terrifying avalanche.
Once triggered, the magnitude of an earthquake amplifies with the aid of other factors such as fault lines or volcano zones etc.

Q1. Should the above three aspects make an impact for the Earth of such a huge mass?

A. Even though the above three aspects may not individually and independently trigger an earthquake, they definitely fuel the process by supporting other known and unknown factors causing earthquakes. Well, if you consider an earthquake of magnitude 6.0, even though it may create a hell lot of damage in a densely populated city, it is a very small or un-noticeable one for the Earth of such a huge mass. I guess you can get the analogy.

Q2. Kindly explain the theory behind the above aspects resulting in earthquakes.
A. From the time of its evolution, Earth has transformed form a very unstable, active and dynamic behavior with respect to earthquakes and volcanoes to a near stable scenario where life can flourish more consistently and fearlessly.
Probably if I make a correction in the above statement to state 'has' as 'had', it would become more meaningful. OK. Leave it alone.
This stableness is due to stable earth in its inner layers.
There are water wells inside the earth. There are oil wells inside the earth.
Man drilled earth and started exploring, extracting and exploiting these wells to fulfill his needs.
From past 100 years, may be billions of gallons of oil and water have been extracted from deep earth.
Similarly billions of tons of metals and granite/marble has been extracted and exploited from earth's crust.

Some facts on oil exploration/exploitation
# The world has drilled about 5 million oil wells.
# World uses 85 million barrels of oil everyday.
# World has just about 40 years of oil remaining for consumption.

Now,

1. This will have definitely created zones which are empty and to be filled.
2. The sudden loss of pressure in these points will have created zones, which are ready to crumble.
3. The inner earth crust will have lost strength due to removal of metals and at the same time is facing the increased pressure of mass on the earth's surface due to man made structures.
4. Huge and sometimes uncontrolled weapon/nuclear weapon testing in earth's underground is definitely making zones which I consider as crumble zones created by man as I have explained above and those which have occurred naturally to crumble and re-distribute.

The inside of Earth is very much hydraulically driven. If some part of an oil well or magma well crumbles, it can transfer the energy to a relatively distant area through hydraulic transfer of energy to tectonic plates and cause earth to rumble at those points. Therefore earthquakes have occurred during the formation of these wells and will occur during the dissolution of these wells also.

Q3 Will all the areas from where oil is being exploited crumble?
A. If not the area exactly above these wells, definitely areas nearby will crumble to tumble as I have explained above (hydraulic push).

Q4 Can you give some evidences for the above things to have happened?
A. Yes. Why not?

1. Consider the recent earthquake in Indonesia. It has happened due to the oil exploration in Indonesian area and Australia.

2. Consider the recent earthquake in Iran. It has happened due to oil exploration in the area.

3. Consider the recent earthquake in Northern part of United States. It has happened due to oil exploitation in the area and Canada.

4. Consider the recent earthquake in South Africa. It has happened due to mining in the area.

5. Consider the earthquake that occurred in Gujarat, India. It has happened due to offshore oil exploration in the area and the oil exploration in Gulf.

6. Consider the Earthquake that occurred in Latur, India. It has happened due to offshore oil exploration and water well exploitation in the area.

Likewise consider all the earthquakes that have recently occurred and study those and nearby area. You will find one of the above reasoning.

Q5. If this continues, will it lead to a major catastrophe?
A. I feel that it will have done some major damages by the time oil gets exhausted from earth. And it might trigger a series of activities to bring back earth to unstable behavior, which might as well wipe out life on earth.

Q5. Can we protect our Earth at this point? How?
A. Definitely worth the try. Drastically reduce the oil/mineral exploitation. Stop the entire underground weapon testing programs.

The above article is just my opinion about the issue and a ray of hope to all those who are suffering nightmares experiencing earthquakes.

As I am presently working on the data of epicenters of various earthquakes, their pattern and their proximity to water/oil/mineral mining areas. In a couple of weeks, I should be able to publish a list of places where earthquake is imminent.
